Vatha Kozhambu


Vatha Kozhambu is a delicious south indian dish. This dish can be prepared with very less ingredients and consumes very less time.

Ingredients:
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad dhal - 1/2 tsp
Chenna dhal - 1/2 tsp
Red chilli - 1 or 2
Hing - a pinch
Turmeric powder - a pinch
Sambar powder - 3 to 4 tbsp
Curry leaves -
salt - to taste
Oil - 3 tbsp
Tamarind paste - (take one lemon size of tamarind, soak it in water for 15 mins. Squeeze the tamarind well in the water. Filter the water and use it)
Tomato puree - take 2 tomatoes and grind it well.
Small onions - 10 - 15 nos.

Preparation: 

Heat the pan
Add 3 tbsp of oil 
When the oil heats up, add mustard seeds, urad dhal, chenna dhal.
Fry it lightly till it gets golden brown.
Then add red chilli, hing, turmeric powder and sambar powder one by one.
Fry it lightly.
Now add the curry leaves.
Once all this is mixed up well add small onions.
Fry it lightly.
Then add the tamarind paste and tomato puree.
Mix well
Now add salt to taste
Allow this to boil well till u get a nice aroma.
Once it is ready, transfer it to a serving bowl.

Sambar Powder

Sambar is almost one of the main dishes in south indian cooking.
If you have this dry powder at home you can prepare delicious sambar without much hassles.
Sambar can be served along with idli, dosa or can be taken along with rice.

How to prepare Sambar Powder

Ingredients:

Red Chilli - 1/2 Kg
Coriander Seeds  - 1/4 Kg
Toor Dhal - 150 gms
Channa Dhal - 150 gms
Fenugreek - 2 Tbsp
Pepper - 75 gms
Jeera - 50 gms
Turmeric Powder - 2 Tbsp


Method of Preparation:


Dry roast all the above ingredients one by one until you get the aroma.
The color of the dal should not change
Grind it finely.
Store it in a air tight container.
You can store this for months.

Carrot - 2 Nos
Beans - 50 gms
Green Peas - 50 gms
Onion - 2 Nos (Big)
Tomato - 2 Nos (Big)
Green Chilli - 3 Nos (as per your taste)
Ginger Garlic Paste - 1/2 Teaspoon
Turmeric Powder - a pinch
Salt - To taste
Garam Masala - 1/2 Teaspoon
Coconut - 1/2 Portion
Cinnamon (Pattai)-2 Pcs
Cloves - 3 Pcs
